The City of Vancouver declared March the month to honor the cherry tree through the Festival’s unique cultural programming. As Vancouver’s first rite of spring, the universal theme of the cherry tree inspires new poetry, art, music, film, crafts, photography, while inspiring the artist in us all.

Through a wide array of diverse programming  the festival captures the exuberance of the blossoming with cultural programming for the whole community to enjoy. With over 36,000 Japanese ornamental cherry trees no other city in Canada is so well positioned to host such a joyous city-wide celebration. This engaging festival provides a happy opportunity to bring people together in Vancouver's natural park settings to experience this miracle of nature.

Inspired by the age old Sakura festivals of Japan, the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival uplifts city spirits while the ephemeral nature of the blossoms remind us all to take time to celebrate life now.
