This 100 hour introductory course guides those interested in teaching English through an interactive investigation of teaching a foreign language and the essential of ESL pedagogy. Prospective teachers receive a comprehensive overview of the communicative teaching approach, up-to-date publications and teacher's resources, and the essentials of a well-rounded curriculum for the adult ESL learner. Participants are responsible for devising lesson plans that incorporate media, effective teaching aids and interactive activities. Emphasis is placed on classroom management, the evaluation of lessons, handling cooperative/uncooperative students, implementing peer observation and techniques for shared and individual classroom teaching. Requirements: Advanced level of English skills. 19 years of age and older |
