What is an Internship? An internship is a hands-on learning experience where, under the direction of a mentor or supervisor, the student is exposed to various aspects of their chosen career.
Qualifications: Students come to study ESL for at least 2 months to ensure their knowledge of the English language is sufficient for them to go out into the work world.
Students must have an upper intermediate to advanced level of English.
Procedure:
In order to know a student's level of skill in the English language, BCC will conduct a qualifying test, the results of which will determine the number of months needed for the student to study before they can be placed in an Internship program. The test consists of two parts: a written exam and a telephone interview. These tests, for which there is a $ 35.00 fee, are conducted from the student's country of origin. . The tests are not compulsory but are recommended so that students will know how many months of ESL study they need to complete before they are ready to be placed in an Internship.
After the completion of their ESL study, the student is placed in an internship in the area of their chosen career.
Internships are usually not paid positions. However, some companies do offer a salary but this is an individual arrangement with specific companies.
Internships could lead to offers of employment depending on the opportunities available. Reference letters, if deserved, can also be issued.
